PERRY TWP. — Township supervisors approved the purchase of a new dump truck for $189,375 on Tuesday.

Supervisors unanimously agreed to the purchase by making an $80,000 down payment and financing the $109,375 balance over five years.

The township is obtaining proposals for the financing and anticipates the annual payments will be about $24,000, but the overall cost would increase if an extended warranty is purchased, supervisors said.

With the new truck, the township will have three trucks, said A.J. Boni, chairman of the board of supervisors.

One of the existing trucks is old and it will be kept for certain work and as a back up in the event one of the other trucks breaks down, he said.

The cab and chassis of the 2018 Mack truck costs $109,022. The dump body, hydraulics, hitch, plow, spreader and high-lift gate costs $80,353.

The truck and accessories are being purchased through the Costars state cooperative purchasing program.

In unrelated business, the supervisors approved a 15-year franchise agreement with Atlantic Broadband.

The township joined several other municipalities in hiring the Cohen Law Group of Pittsburgh to negotiate agreements. The township’s cost was $7,000.

Boni said there are no major changes between the prior agreement and the new one. The agreement includes free service for the township building and fire station, he said.

Supervisor Clarence Johnson said the township is looking into a $100,000 grant available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to extend cable service to areas without it. The grant would require a 15 percent match from the township, he said.

In other business, the supervisors:

n Announced that the state Department of Transportation is holding a meeting to discuss plans to repair the Layton Bridge in the fire hall at 4 p.m. April 27.

n Approved a resolution to participate in the Fayette County MS4 Coalition to assist with storm water management.

n Granted the Perry baseball and fast pitch softball league to use the Star Junction and Whitsett ball fields.

n Scheduled a clean up day on April 17 when unwanted items will be picked up during normal trash collection.
