A South Connellsville man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly beat a woman March 9 and prevented paramedics from coming inside to treat her and fled.

Aaron Douglas Katona, 26, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, obstruction of emergency services and possession of drug paraphernalia.

South Connellsville police said Katona punched and kicked Kim Katona at a Mentzer Street residence, causing severe lacerations, contusions and swelling. When he saw police, he allegedly fled on foot, scattering drug paraphernalia behind him as he ran, according to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case.

Police did not specify the relationship between the man and woman.

Katona was arraigned Thursday night before on-call Magisterial District Judge Jennifer Jeffries and lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
