Gertrude (Swaney) Porter
Gertrude (Swaney) Porter, 86, a resident of Denbo, Pa., peacefully died in her house, which she made a perfect home to her family for many years, Thursday, March 16, 2017 from a sudden illness.
She was born in Dunbar Township, Fayette County, Pa., on Saturday, May 10, 1930 to Lester Swaney and Carrie McNatt.
She married her husband, Harry Richard Porter Sr., on December 17th, 1949 and shared a wonderful, loving, caring life with him for 69 years that she would not have changed if given the chance.
She gave birth to two children: Harry Richard “Rich” Porter Jr. and Kimberly Kay (Porter) Ilko both of Brownsville (Denbo). Rich married Linda (Decovich) and have two boys, Richard Jon Porter and Ryan Matthew Porter of which combined have three children of their own. Kim married Frank Ilko and have only one son, Aric Chase. His Nanny was able to witness his loving relationship with his wife Jeannie (Crowe) Ilko and her great grand dogs.
She was an excellent baker and cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She loved watching the food channels and later in life became a dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
She loved all of her family so deeply and said often what a truly blessed person she was.
She is survived by two sisters Katherine DeBord from Ohio and Carrie Ann Davis from Iowa with whom she kept in touch with frequently.
She had a large family that departed too early which included a sister, Lillian White of Fredericktown, Pa., and eight brothers, Frank Swaney of Michigan, Lester “Albert” Swaney of Ohio, Henry Swaney, Robert Swaney and Charles Swaney all of Pennsylvania, Edwin Swaney, Ralph Swaney and Thomas Swaney of Ohio. She had numerous nieces and nephews from both the Swaney and Porter side that filled her heart with both love and many great memories. Their visits with her meant more to her than they will ever know.
Honoring her request, all funeral arrangements are private and under the direction of the JOHN B. GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main St., Beallsville, PA 15313.
Interment will be in Westland Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to a local charity of one’s choice.
