Emergency crews rescued an adult and a child stranded on a rock after their boat sank in the Monongahela River in Brownsville on Saturday afternoon.

The two were under the Lane Bane Bridge shortly after 2 p.m., when their boat hit debris from an old coal mine tipple, which caused it to sink, according to Fire Chief Jordan Sealy of Brownsville Fire Company No. 1.

Fire crews were able to reach the two by a rescue boat, providing life jackets and bringing them back safely to Brownsville Wharf, said Sealy.

No injuries were reported and the incident will be investigated.

Brownsville Fire Company No. 1, South Brownsville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, Brownsville ambulance and Fayette County HAZMAT-Team 900 assisted at the scene, according to Fayette County 911.
