Gmitter

Nathan Henning was elected to serve a six-year term as a magisterial district judge covering several areas in Fayette County.

Henning, who secured the Republican nod in May, bested Donald “Butch” Gmitter, who received the top number of votes on the Democratic ticket in the primary.

According to unofficial counts from the county election bureau, Gmitter received 1,600 votes and Henning received 1,766 votes.

The post, currently held by Magisterial District Judge Wendy Dennis, covers the areas of Markleysburg, Ohiopyle and Henry Clay, Stewart, Wharton and North Union townships. Dennis is retiring at the end of the year.

During the campaign both men touted their respective experience in law enforcement as one of their top qualifications for the post.

Henning is a corrections officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and previously served as a juvenile probation officer in Fayette County.

Gmitter, the chief of police for the Uniontown Area School District, is a retired detective from the Uniontown city police department.
