Pat F. Guariglia
Pat F. Guariglia, 96, of Flatwoods, Pa., passed away peacefully in his home with his beloved family around him.
He was born in Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania on October 4, 1921 son of the late Nick and Mary (Perrotta) Guariglia.
Pat graduated from Dunbar Township High School, Class of 1940.
He received a Purple Heart in World War II as he was wounded in Saidor, New Guinea. He served as a member of the 114th Engineer Combat Battalion of the 32nd Infantry (Red Arrow Division). He was a member of the Emery Lewis Pratt Post 586 American Legion in Vanderbilt, Pa.
Pat was a strong believer and always put his faith in the Lord. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Dawson until its closure. He was a member of Saint John the Baptist Church, Perryopolis, Pa.
Pat worked 12 years for the P&LE Railroad and was a Rural Mail Carrier for over 39 years out of the Vanderbilt Post Office. He was affectionately known as “Pat, the mailman” in the Flatwoods community.
Pat loved his home and was often seen outside puttering in his yard.
He was exceptionally close to his grand daughters and great granddaughters. He will be extremely missed by his immediately family.
Pat is survived by his only daughter, Sherry Stewart and her husband Gene of Flatwoods, Pa.; granddaughters: Joleen Stewart of Ashburn, Virginia and Jodi White and her husband Josh of Flatwoods, Pa.; great granddaughters: Lauren White and Katie White whom he affectionately called “his little ones.”
He was preceded in death by his wife to whom he was married for 65 years, Dorothy “Dot” (Sherrick) Guariglia in November 2015; sister, Julia Spicola; and two brothers, Tony Guariglia and Samuel Guariglia.
Family and Friends will be received in PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 418 North Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville, Pa., today from 2 to 8 p.m.
Additional visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Terry Murray officiating.
Interment will follow at Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, Pa., with Full Military Rites and Honors accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 21 and the American Legion posts 301 and 762.
Pat’s family gives a special thanks to nurse Janet and nurse Ashley of OSPTA who helped manage his care at home and all other team members.
