By The 1 min read

An inmate was charged with arson after he allegedly started a fire in his cell to cook his summer sausages, investigators said.

Mikahil Gregory Jones, 26, an inmate at the State Correctional Institute at Fayette, started the fire on the floor of his Labelle prison cell Oct. 18 at about 2 p.m., according to paperwork filed in his case.

He allegedly lit paper towels on fire to cook the sausage.

When the fire alarms went off and he realized he was caught, police said he threw the paper towels in the toilet to extinguish them.

The fire caused $320 in damage to the floor and walls of his cell, court documents said.

Jones is charged with criminal mischief and two counts of arson.
