Michael Smotzer “Mokey”
Michael “Mokey” Smotzer, 88, Springdale, Pa., passed away on Monday October 9, 2017.
He was born on Friday, August 30, 1929 to his parents, the late John and Mary (Bihun) Smotzer, and has been a lifelong resident of the community.
Mr. Smotzer served in the United States Army during World War II in the occupational Japan and belonged to both the Springdale Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and the American Legion.
Michael worked for the Crucible Coal Mine where he was also a Pitcher for their Baseball Team.
He enjoyed singing, playing his harmonica, bargain shopping, and golfing where he had a hole-in-one at the Woodlawn Golf Course.
Michael also liked watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and was a huge Dynamo football fan, never missing a game.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 64 years, Henrietta (Kowalewski) Smotzer; daughters: Linda Banas-Reno of Oakmont, Pa., Georgetta Smotzer of East Deer, Pa., Deborah (Stanley) Mielecki of Freeport, Pa.; sons: Michael (Darlene) Smotzer of Saxonburg, Pa., David (Pamela) Smotzer of Allegheny Township, Pa.; five grand children: Julie Andrews, Samantha Fonzi, Randy Mielecki and Nikki Mielecki, and Connor Smotzer; two great grandchildren: Elliana Fonzi, Mckinley Fonzi; granddog, Zoe; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers John Smotzer and George Smotzer; a sister, Marie Boone; two sons-in-law, Duane Banas and Richard Reno.
Friends will be received on Thursday, October 12th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in the CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh Street, Springdale PA 15144 (724.274.5818).
Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Alphonsus Church with Rev. Kenneth Kezmarsky officiating.
Burial to follow in Deer Creek Cemetery, Cheswick, Pa.
Veteran’s Service Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.
