Masontown man facing additional charges in burglary, assault
A man was charged in two additional cases after he allegedly burglarized two businesses and assaulted officers at Uniontown Hospital where he was taken after police found him unconscious near the Masontown police station.
Masontown police were called just before 5 a.m. Thursday when Brandon Lee Stanovich, 20, allegedly set off a commercial burglar alarm at Silver Bar at 235 Smithfield Road.
He allegedly broke into an outbuilding and attempted to break into the main building, causing about $800 in damage. He also allegedly stole a bag of cheese. He was identified by surveillance footage, according to court paperwork.
Officers were looking for Stanovich when they received a call at 6:11 a.m. for an unresponsive man lying on the steps of the Masontown Municipal Center. He was identified as Stanovich and taken to Uniontown Hospital, court documents said.
Just after 7 a.m., hospital police were called to help restrain Stanovich, who was allegedly thrashing and kicking despite being cuffed to the bed. He allegedly spit at officers, threatened to kill them, and used abusive language toward police and a nurse, police said.
Masontown police were called again at 9 a.m. when an Adolph’s Tavern employee discovered someone tried to kick in the door overnight, causing $625 in damage at the South Main Street bar. Stanovich was identified by surveillance footage, police said.
He was charged with burglary, attempted burglary, criminal mischief and theft in the first case, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, harassment and four counts of aggravated assault in the second case, and attempted burglary, criminal mischief, and loitering and prowling at nighttime in the third case.
Bail was set at $75,000, straight cash, in each burglary case. He was awaiting arraignment in the aggravated assault case as of Tuesday afternoon. He remains in the Fayette County lockup in lieu of bond.
He faces a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 25 before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. Shimshock.
