Homicide investigation opened after New Eagle man found dead in road
Police opened a homicide investigation into the death of a New Eagle man, who died from trauma lying on a road in South Park earlier this month.
John Jenkins, 48, was found suffering from severe head trauma near 3541 Snowden Road in South Park just before 10 p.m. Oct. 9. A few minutes later, he was pronounced dead, according to Allegheny County Police Department.
South Park Police learned Jenkins was walking along the road near Connor Road at about 9:30 p.m. They said someone may have hit Jenkins while he was lying in the road, not realizing the object they hit was a person, and continued driving.
Jenkins’ manner of death is pending, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office. He died from blunt force trauma to the head and trunk.
Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit is assisting South Park Police in the investigation.
They are seeking the public’s help to gather information, and offering a $1,000 award for information that leads to arrest or prosecution.
