A Charleroi man was charged with burglary after he allegedly broke in to a Monessen home and took Mountain Dew and candy, leaving the homeowner a note before he left.

Brandon J. Wergin, 27, of 1005 Lower Crest Ave. allegedly admitted to police that he went into Jayne Guzzie’s Dennis Avenue home around 1 p.m. Oct. 16.

Police said Wergin got into the home through a kitchen window. When Guzzie called police she told them that a man who lives down the street broke in to the home, and Guzzie showed them a note Wergin left for her on the living room table, according to court paperwork.

Police did not reveal what the note said in the affidavit filed in the case.

When police interviewed Wergin, he allegedly brought the stolen soda with him to the Monessen police station and admitted to being in Guzzie’s home. Police searched his backpack and found a large bag of candy he also took from the home, according to court paperwork.

Police said they also found needles and drug paraphernalia in his backpack.

He was charged with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia before Magisterial District Judge Joseph Dalfonso on Monday and will face a preliminary hearing at a later date.
