Two cars went over an embankment next to Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Township Friday afternoon, resulting in one person being flown from the scene.

The person was flown to Allegheny General Hospital after going over the steep hillside, according to Washington County 911, and their condition is unknown.

No other occupants were in either car, Carroll Township Volunteer Fire Chief Rob Greenlee said, adding that it took 45 minutes to extricate the person from the car – whose midsized Volkswagen roof had to be cut open – and rope rig them back up the hillside.

“They were destroyed,” Greenlee said of the Volkswagen and the other car.

The cars fell approximately 100 feet down the embankment, according to Greenlee.

Washington County 911 said the cars fell over a steep hillside shortly before the call in response to the incident was placed at 2:15 p.m.

Responding to the call were the Carroll Township Volunteer Fire Department, Monongahela Fire Department, Carroll Township Police Department, Mon Valley EMS and LifeFlight 5 out of Rostraver Township.
