William A. Thurby Jr.
William A. Thurby Jr. age 91 of Uniontown, Pa died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in Uniontown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born December 24, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pa, son of the late William A. and Elizabeth Edgar Thurby Sr. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Twila and a brother Thomas Thurby.
Bill was a member of Third Presbyterian Church in Uniontown, he served in the U.S. Navy in WW II. He was a member of Laurel Lodge #651 F&AM, Uniontown Lodge of Perfection, Pittsburgh Scottish Rite, Syria Shrine, and Caravan 9. He was also Past President of Amvets Post 103, Past President of Uniontown Izaak Walton League, a member of the American Legion and D.A.V.
Bill is survived by his children, Thomas Thurby and wife Virginia of Uniontown, Gary Thurby and wife Vicki of Uniontown, Linda Hay and husband James, Jr of Toano, Virginia, Kathy Hazelton and husband Gary of New Baltimore, Michigan, Grandchildren Thomas Thurby, Chad Thurby, Melissa Thurby, Gary Thurby, Jr, Amy Hopper, Samuel Hay, Joshua Hazelton, Andrew Hazelton and Katelyn Scheving and seven great grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD, PA. Friday, October 27, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and Saturday from 10 to 11 am the hour of service in the funeral home with Pastor David Watson officiating. Interment in Mt. Washington Cemetery.
