William Franczyk Sr. “Bill”
William “Bill” Franczyk Sr., age 70, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away at home on Tuesday September 12, 2017 after a short and very courageous and dignified battle with cancer.
He was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to the late Peter and Irene (Varhol) Franczyk.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, Jack Franczyk.
Bill was a member of the graduating Class of Uniontown High School in 1964.
He was a member of the United States Army Reserve, the AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa., and the UMWA.
He was retired from the former Emerald Mine in Waynesburg, Pa., after 38 years of employment.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Barbara (Marsinek) Franczyk, whom he married in 1971 and was his excellent supportive caregiver during his illness.
They were blessed with two wonderful sons: William “Bill” Franczyk Jr. and wife Lucinda of Washington, Pa., and Stephen P. Franczyk and wife Julie also of Washington, Pa.
Surviving also are three precious grand children whom he loved with all his heart: Ethan William Franczyk, Elisabeth Ann Franczyk, Kaitlyn Ann Franczyk.
He is also survived by the following sisters: Lauretta Cole and husband William of Charleston, West Virginia, Monica Carroll of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Mary Jean Kish and husband Jim of Uniontown, Pennsylvania JoAnn Andrews of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Christine LeVin and husband Eric of Turks and Caicos.
Also surviving are two special sisters-in-law Mary Kay Stiver, “his personal angel”, and husband Richard of Hopwood, Pa., and Betsy M. Peters and husband John, “Bill’s other brother”, of Uniontown.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Amedisys Hospice, especially his nurse Aimee and CNA Cassie, who were always there with a smile, kind words and a gentle touch.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 680 CHERRY TREE LANE, Uniontown, Pennsylvania Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m and Friday, September 15, until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown, Pa.
Interment to follow in Saint John Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa., with Full Military Rites accorded by AMVETS Post 103.
