A Georges Township woman allegedly hit a man in the head with a lap desk and then briefly escaped police custody at the Fayette County Booking Center Sunday.

Michele Lee Mack, 45, of Morgantown Road admitted to police she hit George Poppe-Smith at her home, adding she “won this time,” according to court documents.

“She continued to relate that the victim was just upset that he lost,” state police Trooper Michael Quinn wrote in an affidavit of probable cause filed in her case.

Poppe-Smith told investigators Mack was yelling at their daughter, and he attempted to intervene. She hit him in the head with a laptop lap desk, causing him to lose consciousness, court paperwork said.

His son called 911 when he found his dad lying on the floor bleeding just after 5 a.m., police said.

State police arrested her and took her to the booking center, where she allegedly slipped out of her handcuffs at about 9:40 a.m. and fled out the door and down the road.

Uniontown police chased her on foot and in vehicles.

She was apprehended less than 300 feet away on Gallatin Avenue and returned to custody.

She is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person in the first case filed before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. Shimshock.

Mack is facing a felony count of escape and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct before Magisterial District Judge Michael Metros.

Bail was set at $25,000 in the assault case and $75,000 in the escape case. Mack remains lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of bond.
