James R. Shanaberger “Jim”
James “Jim” R. Shanaberger age 77, of Uniontown, Pennsylvania passed away on Saturday September 24, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
He was born August 27, 1940 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania son of the late Harry Omer Shanaberger and Mary Catherine (Lucas) Shanaberger.
Jim was 1958 graduate of South Union High School and received an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Pennsylvania State University in 1985.
Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 23 years.
After retiring from the Air Force, he started and finished a second career with the Norfolk Southern Railway.
He enjoyed playing and watching golf and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harry W. “Bill” Shanaberger; his nephew, W. Michael “Mike” Shanaberger; and his companion, Terry “Nana” Hurst.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children: Scott Shanaberger and his wife Anne of Shelby Township, Michigan, Greg Shanaberger of Troy, Michigan, and Bonnie Pasquale and her husband Mark of Perryopolis Pennsylvania his seven grandchildren: Samantha Mathur and her husband Ayush of Northville, Michigan, Amanda Stolen and her husband Andy of Howell, Michigan, Joy Shanaberger of Washington, D.C., David Shanaberger of Seattle, Washington, Kristen Stratton and her husband Rob of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Jessica Thomas and her husband Paul of Abingdon, Virginia, Marissa Barron and her husband Nick of Bridgeport, West Virginia; his eight great-grandchildren: Karalyn and Rowan Mathur, Alivia and Levi Stolen, Bryce and Addilyn Stratton, Paul Thomas, Chloe Barron; his former wife and close friend, Judith Shanaberger of Scottdale, Pennsylvania; his sister- in-law, Ruth Shanaberger of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; and many special nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 2 to 8 p.m.
Visitation will continue Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Funeral Home beginning at 10:00 a.m. where a Service will be held to honor his life.
A funeral procession to Maple Grove Cemetery in Fairchance, Pennsylvania will immediately follow and Military Honors will be rendered by the Vietnam Veterans Inc. of Fayette County.
