Police: Homeless man gave brother’s name in Luzerne Twp. chase

After a homeless man was arraigned under his brother’s name, state police determined the name he had given was false.

State police said William Irvin Miller, 42, was the man who led Trooper Adam Janosko on a chase starting on High Street in Luzerne Township, Thursday evening, and ending when Miller’s Chevrolet Trailblazer bottomed out on an ATV trail, Janosko said. Miller waived his charges Wednesday to the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas before Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr.

Police discovered Miller had active warrants out of sheriff’s offices in Allegheny, Westmoreland and Fayette counties, and out of the Uniontown state police barracks after determining his correct identity, according to Janosko.

Miller’s charges were amended at his preliminary hearing to add charges of false identification, fleeing or eluding and habitual offenders. He is also charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and three counts of DUI and an additional count of fleeing or eluding.

Miller is lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
