Fayette County Redevelopment Authority to seek funding for emergency, transitional housing
The Fayette County Redevelopment Authority plans to seek state funding designed to benefit underprivileged individuals in the county.
The authority said last week it will submit a request for funding on the county’s behalf through the state Department Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) Program.
The ESG Program provides funds for emergency shelters and transitional housing that aid homeless individuals and families, including victims of domestic violence, youth, people with mental illness, families with children, and veterans. ESG funds may also be used to assist individuals who face homelessness due to eviction, foreclosure, or utility shutoff.
Past ESG funding awarded to the authority has assisted Fayette County Community Action Agency and City Mission-Living Stones, in addition to Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania, the authority said.
A hearing to gather public input on the authority’s funding proposal will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the authority, located at 86 W. Main St. in Uniontown.
The Fayette County Board of Commissioners is expected to consider final approval of the county’s ESG application at its October meeting, according to the redevelopment authority.
