Festival set
California University of Pennsylvania and the California community will hold the 23rd annual Pike Run Youth Fishing Festival from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 21, at Rotary Park in California. Registration begins at 7 a.m. The event is free and open to children ages 15 and younger. A parent or guardian must accompany children under 13. Participants may bring their own fishing gear or borrow equipment from a Cal U student volunteer. Expert fishing guides will be available to answer questions and help participants. Meeting scheduled
Community Connections, an educational cooperative initiative among Fayette County school districts, the Intermediate Unit 1 and New Directions Counseling Services, will meet from 6-7:30 p.m., April 24, at New Directions, located at 125 Chaffee St. Ext. in Uniontown.
A presentation by a representative from the IU1 will address supports for students to successfully participate in the least restrictive environment. Parents, teachers and community members are invited to attend.
Seminars offered
The Institute for Law and Public Policy at Cal U will offer a series of continuing education seminars for legal professionals April 26-27 at the university’s Southpointe Center in Canonsburg. Each seminar is approved for Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education (PACLE) credits. Camp offered
The Waynesburg University Department of Communication will hold a sports announcing and sports journalism camp June 18-22. The camp is open to current high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. AG registration
Albert Gallatin Area School District will hold kindergarten registration for the 2018-19 school year from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the following locations: Friendship Hill Elementary, April 30; Masontown Elementary, May 1; Smithfield Elementary, May 2; A.L. Wilson Elementary, May 3; and George J. Plava Elementary, May 4.
To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 31, 2018. At registration, parents must present their child’s official state birth certificate, residency verification and immunization record. Children will be given a vision, speech and kindergarten screening test. Children moving into the district should also register for school at this time. Packets will be available at each elementary school prior to registration. All questions should be referred to your local school.
LH registration
Laurel Highlands School District will hold kindergarten registration for the 2018-19 school year from 9-11 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m. at the following locations: Marshall Elementary, April 30; Hutchinson Elementary, May 1; Clark Elementary, May 2; and Hatfield Elementary, May 3.
To be registered, children must be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 31, 2018. At registration, parents must present the child’s proof of age, immunization record and proof of residency. All students will complete a pre-kindergarten benchmark screening, hearing test and vision test. In case of a scheduling conflict, contact the building principal.
Uniontown registration
Uniontown Area School District will hold kindergarten registration for the 2018-19 school year from 8:30-11 a.m. and from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the following locations: Benjamin Franklin, May 7; Lafayette Elementary, May 8; Menallen Elementary, May 9; Franklin Elementary and Marclay Elementary, May 10; and Wharton Elementary, May 11.
To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2018. At registration, the child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will be required to present proof of residency and the child’s original birth certificate, immunization record and social security card or number. Parents are asked to register their children in their attendance area. The registration process takes 30-45 minutes.
Harp Ensemble set
The Ringgold Harp Ensemble, comprised of middle and high school students from the Ringgold School District, will present a Spring Tea from 2-4 p.m., May 19, in the cafeteria of Ringgold Middle School, located at 2 Ram Drive, Monongahela. Tickets are on sale in the middle school main office, which can be reached at 724-258-2211. Tickets are $15 and include admittance, treats and a variety of teas. Attendees may bring their favorite teacup to use. The Ringgold Harp Ensemble will provide harp music for the event. The proceeds will benefit the Harp Ensemble Scholarship Fund, which enables harp students to attend the Ohio Scottish Arts School (OSAS) at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, a week-long event that provides extensive classes in Scottish harp taught by instructors from the U.S. and Scotland.
