Brownsville man charged with illegal firearm possession
A Brownsville man is in the Fayette County Prison on a $100,000 bond after police said he called them, claiming he was shot, but a video showed he was the one with the gun.
Mark A. Johnson, 48, called state police Saturday to say a man shot him with a pellet gun in Brownsville, according to court paperwork. When authorities went to talk to the man Johnson said shot him, they also spoke to the man’s neighbor, who showed them a surveillance video.
That video, police allege, showed Johnson pull up near the neighbor’s borough home in a silver mini-van, pull out a handgun and fire numerous shots into the air. Police said they found eight shell casings from a .380-caliber gun in the area.
Police said Johnson, who is on state parole for drug charges, has prior felony convictions that preclude him from having a firearm.
He was charged with person not to possess firearms, carrying a firearm without a license and reckless endangerment
Johnson was arraigned before Fayette County Magisterial District Judge Nathan Henning and faces a Sept. 5 preliminary hearing.
