Cumberland Township woman charged with assault

By The 1 min read

Police in Cumberland Township charged a woman with aggravated assault after she allegedly tried to pepper spray officers.

Cumberland Township police said they were called to a Greene County home Friday evening, when a man alleged his girlfriend, Debra Venick, 47, pushed him and then fled. Police said they looked for Venick, but were unable to find her.

They were later notified that she was seen walking on Air Shaft Road. When they found her, police alleged, Venick refused to go with the officers and instead pulled out pepper spray and sprayed it at them from about 10 feet away.

The officers deployed Tasers, stopping her, according to court paperwork.

Venick was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault, and one count of disorderly conduct.

A $30,000 percentage bond was posted on her behalf. She faces a Sept. 5 preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson.
