Richard G. Harris
Richard G. Harris, 88, of Nemacolin, Pa., died at 12:58 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was born May 2, 1929 in Nemacolin, Pa., son of the late George J. and Viola J. (Luzier) Harris.
Mr. Harris worked for seven years at the Nemacolin Mine before serving in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
After his military service, he began working for General Motors at the Euclid, Ohio plant where he worked for 37 years until his retirement in 1989 when he relocated back to Nemacolin.
Mr. Harris served as Commander of American Legion Post 400 in Carmichaels, Pa., from 1994 until 1997 and was a past President of the Carmichaels Lions Club.
He was a member of Valley Lodge No. 459 F. & A. M., Masontown, Pa., a member of the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley, Pittsburgh, Pa
Mr. Harris was a Life Member of Nemacolin Volunteer Fire Company
and active in supporting local Greene County sports.
He enjoyed watching football, baseball, golf and hockey, and volunteered to deliver Meals on Wheels.
Mr. Harris had an unending love for his family.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Helga F. (Gispert) Harris; three sons: Robert Harris (Tina) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, John J. Roper of Willoughby, Ohio and Mitch Roper (Kim) of Chesnee, South Carolina; two daughters: Deborah Berquist at home and Elfie Gispert of Worms, Germany; nine grand children: Kerry Aylesworth (Diane), Christopher Harris (fiance* Alison), Adam Aylesworth (Amanda), Heather Wood (Joe), Rachel Espanoza-Castro (Mario), Sean Mitchell Roper, David Berquist (Kira), Katie Harris (fianc* Angelo), Shannon Harris; 10 great grand children; a daughter-in -law, Debbie Harris of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Rick Harris; two brothers, Ronald Harris who died in infancy and Melvin J. Harris; and three sisters, Sara Louise Carafa, Margaret J. Anderson, and Julia E. Reynolds.

Valley Lodge No. 459 will conduct a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. on Monday followed at 7:00 p.m. by the Funeral Service and after by Military Honors by the Cumberland American Legion Post 400.
