Ambulances were called to Laurel Highlands Senior High School, Thursday afternoon, for three students who began experiencing medical problems after eating gummy bears, officials said.

Two students were taken to Uniontown Hospital by Fayette EMS, according to a Fayette 911 supervisor. It was not immediately clear why the gummy bears caused medical problems. Medics were called to treat three students within about 15 minutes starting at about 12:20 p.m.

Superintendent Jesse Wallace said tests will determine what was in the gummy bears to make the students sick. An investigation will also determine who gave the students the gummy bears.

“Right now, it’s really in its infancy,” he said Thursday afternoon.

The students were in stable condition when they were taken to the hospital, he said.

State police are investigating.
