1 min read

Fayette County Community Action, in partnership with the county’s Volunteer Organizations After Disaster (VOAD) has established a fund to accept monetary donations for those affected by the tornado last week in and around Uniontown.

Those who wish to donate may send a check made out to Fayette County Community Action, indicating “disaster relief” in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to the agency, attention disaster relief, at 108 Beeson Blvd., Uniontown, 15401.

The funds will be used specifically to help those in need as a result of the tornado that hit the city and surrounding areas last Thursday, according to a release from Susan Kozak-Griffith, public information officer for the county’s emergency management agency.

Uniontown’s Emergency Management Coordinator Greg Crossley urged residents who remain in need of damage-related assistance to call 2-1-1.

The number, a resource of the United Way, offers those who call help with a multitude of services.

Thursday’s tornado, the first in the area since 1950, destroyed 22 homes, and affected 218 others.

The National Weather Service said the tornado was ¼-mile wide, and went about 2 miles, and had winds up to 105 mph.
