The following information details achievements in education earned by those in the Herald-Standard readership area.
Dean’s list honors
Gianna Maria Ruda of Uniontown was named to the dean’s list at Duquesne University for the 2017 fall semester.

Lindsay Coville of Masontown was named to the dean’s list at Carlow University for the 2017 fall semester.
Students advance
The following middle school students were the top four finishers among students from six school districts from Fayette and Greene counties in the 2018 Mathcounts mathematics competition held Feb. 1 at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus and have advanced to participate in the state competition in Harrisburg in March: Luke Flecker (Albert Gallatin North), Taylor Duensberry (Mapletown), Malcolm Patton (Ben Franklin) and Nathan Kirby (Margaret Bell Miller).
Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, the winning team in the competition, will also compete in the state competition. Team members included Kirby, Ethan Maxwell, Ashton Pollack and Alex Shultz.
Awards announced
Waynesburg University’s student newspaper, The Yellow Jacket, received eight Keystone Press Awards from the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association (PNA) for work published in 2017, a record number for the publication. The PNA, a nonprofit trade association for print and online media in Pennsylvania, annually presents awards to student and professional journalists in various categories. Staff members and alumni from The Yellow Jacket won the awards in Division II, which includes four-year colleges and universities with enrollment under 10,000.
