Ray R. Garlick Sr.
Ray R. Garlick Sr., 86 South Connellsville, Pa., died Thursday, February 22, 2018 in Kane Glen Hazel Regional Center, Pittsburgh, Pa.
He was born December 24, 1931 in Connellsville Pa., son of the late Raymond and Bertha (Ritenour) Garlick.
Ray was a graduate of Connellsville High School.
He was the owner and operator of Ray R. Garlick Builder and Home Improvement until he retired and then later was employed by Professional Transport, Inc., as a Van Driver for the Railroad until he quit at the age of 80.
He served in the United States Army National Guard, 110th Infantry Medical Company being called to active duty during the Korean War under Eisenhower and was stationed in Ulm, Germany. He was awarded the permanent rank of Corporal and was discharged as a Sergeant. He was most proud of his service to our country.
Ray was a Lifetime Member of the following: the South Connellsville Volunteer Fire Department, former member of the South Connellsville Rod and Gun Club, International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 9, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 21 in Connellsville, Pa. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 21 in Connellsville.
He was a member of the Albright United Methodist Church and he attended the Pennsville United Methodist Church
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being around his family.
He built the Singing Tower at Green Ridge Memorial Park and achieved the status of Master Mechanic in Masonry before his retirement.
He was a past Boy Scout Master for the troop in South Connellsville and he organized the only Sea Scout Ship Troop in the Fayette/Westmoreland County Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America sponsored by the Connellsville Elks.
Throughout his life, he held different leadership positions in the organizations in which he was a member.
Ray is survived by his children: Ray R. Garlick Jr. and wife Paula of Belle Vernon, Pa., Sharlene Dawn Garlick Adanitsch and partner Floyd Merrbach of Front Royal, Virginia, Janie Fawn Garlick and her fianc* David Garletts of Mount Pleasant, Pa., and James Michael Garlick of Normalville, Pa.; his grandchildren: Jean Wiltrout, Michelle Sheets, Kathy Papas, Elaine Shawley, Robert Adanitsch, Daniel Loughran, Dawn Firestone, Cody Adanitsch, Cortney Garlick, Caylee Garlick, Michael Garlick, Kelley Grim, Amanda Rohm, and Christian Garletts; his great grandchildren: Marah McCutcheon, Kendal McCutcheon, Daryn Sheets, Katina Papas, Joseph Papas, Lucas Papas, Dalton Shawley, Shelby Shawley, Kailey Adanitsch, Jocelyn Adanitsch, Sarah Adanitsch, Noah Adanitsch, Anne Adanitsch, Elle Adanitsch, Gabriel Adanitsch, Daniel Loughran Jr., Kristin Garlick, Alisyn Firestone and his 19th great grandchild is due in July 2018; a special nephew, David W. Garlick who was raised by Mr. Garlick’s parents; many nieces and nephews.
Ray was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Bertha Jane (Mitchell) Garlick on August 20, 2014 to whom he was married for 61 years; a daughter, Carol Ann Garlick Loughran; and his siblings, Harold R. Garlick, Sarah Elizabeth Shaffer, Pearl Honse, Glen G. Garlick, and Freida Schroyer.
Friends will be received today from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 111 East Green St., Connellsville, Pa. Additional viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., the hour of Services with Reverend Dr. Marvin Watson officiating.
Interment will be private.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Connellsville Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Honor Guard.
The South Connellsville Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a Memorial Service in funeral home today at 7:00 p.m.
