A former employee with Mount Pleasant Borough is suing the municipality, claiming that he was fired from his position last year because of a childhood medical condition.

Larry R. Golobish II of Mount Pleasant filed the civil lawsuit in federal court through his attorney Samuel Cordes on Friday, naming Mount Pleasant Borough as the defendant.

According to the complaint, Golobish was hired by the borough in January 2017 as a full-time crew leader, having previously worked for the borough as a part-time seasonal laborer.

The complaint states that as a child, Golobish had a brain cyst and as a result of the cyst, he lost feeling in the right side of his body, which causes him to still walk with a limp.

However, Golobish has been cleared to do all forms of work since he was a child and has performed as a manual laborer all of his life.

The complaint states that Golobish started the new position as the crew leader with the borough on Jan. 22, 2017, and worked the entire day, and a day later, the borough sent him to a medical examination.

Cordes writes that the borough fired Golobish, claiming he was physically incapable of performing as a crew leader. A date of the firing was not listed in the complaint.

“Golobish was qualified to perform the essential functions of the position of full-time crew leader,” Cordes writes in the complaint, adding that Golobish continues to suffer from limited to lost wages and benefits, emotional distress, humiliation and inconvenience from the firing.

Golobish is seeking damages including lost wages and benefits from his termination with interest, compensation for emotional distress and legal fees.

Representatives from the Mount Pleasant Borough were not available for comment.
