Edward C. Yanik Sr. “Snuffy”
Edward C. “Snuffy” Yanik Sr., age 86, of Brownfield, Pa., passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018 in the Uniontown Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Uniontown, Pa., Tuesday, July 28, 1931 son of Cyril and Mary (Osanik) Yanik
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Adam “Tony” Yanik, John “Chub” Yanik, and William “Nubbins” Yanik; and sisters, Helen Ducey, Mary Janosick and Margaret Pavlak.
Mr. Yanik was a member of Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was awarded various Korean War Campaign Medals and also the Purple Heart.
He was Assistant Mine Foreman at Cumberland Mine.
He was a member of American Legion Post 51, Hutchinson Sportsman’s Club and United Mine Workers of America.
Ed was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and sportsman.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Clark) Yanik; sons: Kevin Yanik of Brownfield, Pa., Todd Yanik of Philadelphia, Pa., and Edward C. Yanik Jr. and his fianc*e Robin Herring of McClellandtown, Pa.; grandchildren: Bobbie Jo Johnson and husband H. William Johnson III of Uniontown, Pa., Adam Yanik of Smithfield, Pa., Seth Yanik of Uniontown, Pa., Sophia Yanik, Isabella Yanik and Lucia Yanik all of Philadelphia, Pa.; great grandchildren: Howie Johnson, Fletcher Johnson; brother, Robert Yanik of Brownfield, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD, Pa., on Monday, July 2, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m and Tuesday, July 3 until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, 61 North Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, Pa.
Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa., where Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by the North Union Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8543.
Parish Wake Service will be held in funeral home Monday, July 2, at 3:00 p.m. by Saint Mary’s Lazarus Ministry.
