Charges have been filed against a Ruffsdale woman who allegedly forged checks from a Smithton social club.

State police filed charges of forgery and theft against Melissa Dawn Green, 37, at Westmoreland County Magisterial Judge Charles Christner’s office.

Police said the manger with the Smithton Athletic Association was checking the association’s bank account and noticed that several check were made out to Green, who’s the association’s former treasurer, totaling $1,500 from May 9 to 16.

The manager told police on June 8 that Green was no longer involved with any of the association’s financial matters and had no reason or permission to be cashing checks.

The checks were signed in the manger’s name, but not in his handwriting, police alleged.

A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
