Merittstown man charged in stabbing

By The 1 min read

A Merrittstown man was charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly stabbed another man in the back during an argument Monday.

State police said Kirk Douglas Woods, 51, stabbed Troy L. Bradey outside of homes on Trailer Court Road in Luzerne Township just before 1 a.m.

Police said Bradey told them he and Woods were arguing over a shotgun and slashed vehicle tires before he was stabbed. Both men told police that they threw punches at one another, but missed, according to court paperwork.

Woods also reportedly told police that he had house keys in his hand and may have stabbed Bradey with those. Police did not indicate how seriously Bradey was injured in court paperwork.

Police said a neighbor reported a folding knife with a four-inch blade was missing from the coffee table of her home.

Woods was also charged with prohibited possession of a firearm, simple assault, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was committed to Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $50,000 bond and faces a July 18 preliminary hearing.
