Anthony Smolley “Tony”
Anthony “Tony” Smolley, age 91, of Hopwood, Pennsylvania died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 18, 2018
He was born March 24, 1927 to John and Anna (Marva) Smolley.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, John Smolley, Joe Smolley, Paul Smolley; and sisters, Ann Smolley, Mary Smolley, Margaret Maier; and son-in-law, Dr. Neil Love.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted spouse of 63 years, Mary Elizabeth (Lukasik) Smolley; his three children: Mark Smolley (Deb) of Felton, California, Bernadine Love (Jerry Srebalus) of Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Frank Smolley (Deb Galloway) of Hilton Head, South Carolina; grandchildren: Kay Thanawala, Sarah Dilworth, Glenn Love, Ben Love, Brie Ruff, and Micah Galloway; six great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Tony was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II
He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 1248 and worked for United States Steel at the Filbert Shop for 25 years after working for 20 years at Bryson Motors.
He was a lifelong member of Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown, Pa., and was also a former volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul.
He was a graduate of South Union High School, Class of 1945.
Tony was known and will be remembered for his kindness, his ability to fix just about anything, and his unwavering enthusiasm to help others
Friends will be received in DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD, Pa., today, Friday, July 20, from 3 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, July 21, until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
A Funeral Mass will fopllow at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Mary Nativity Roman Catholic Church,
Interment will follow in Saint John Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa., where Full Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103.
Parish Wake Service will be held in funeral home by the Saint Mary’s Lazarus Ministry today at 4:00 p.m.
