Uniontown construction company owner charged with deceptive business practices
A construction company owner from Uniontown was charged after he allegedly worked on but never completed a home improvement project.
Rostraver Police filed a felony charge of deceptive business practices against Jeremiah Jack Ditmore, 32, of Uniontown on July 26 before Magisterial District Judge Charles Christner.
According to court paperwork, Paul Stoltz told police he’d entered into a construction agreement with Ditmore to complete a kitchen, upstairs bathroom and an enclosed patio project.
Stoltz purchased all the materials for the project, police said, and Ditmore agreed to provide labor at a price of $8,500.
Stoltz paid Ditmore over $5,800 toward the project, but Ditmore did not finish the bathroom, the kitchen cabinets weren’t fully installed, there was no running water and the patio wasn’t finished.
Stoltz had another contractor inspect the cabinets and found they were not level and had been damaged and improperly installed, and the bathroom was damaged.
Police stated that looking at text messages exchanged between Ditmore and Stoltz, Ditmore appeared to get angry with Stoltz for questioning him about the work.
Police also spoke with Ditmore, and said he was told to make the situation right to avoid criminal prosecution.
Stoltz later told police that Ditmore offered a small amount of money back to Stoltz, but never followed up.
A summons has been issued for Ditmore to appear at an arraignment before Christner at 9 a.m. Oct. 22.
