An inmate housed in a state prison has pleaded guilty to third-degree murder for killing another inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Fayette in 2016.

Daysean “All Day” Wykee Brock, 31, now lodged at SCI-Huntingdon, also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person this week before Fayette County Judge Linda R. Cordaro.

Prosecutors recommended a 20- to 40-year sentence in the case.

On June 18, 2016, a witness told investigators the victim, John Steckley, 51, was fighting with another inmate over money at SCI-Fayette, when that inmate slapped Steckley.

Brock then “blindside punched” Steckley, knocking him to the ground, police said. Steckley was reportedly left on the ground for about an hour before inmates helped him into his cell. Police said Steckley was vomiting, coughing up blood, losing consciousness and slurring his words. Steckley did not get up the next day, when correctional officers found him unconscious, according to court documents.

A head injury was later discovered, and he was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he died June 26 from blunt force trauma to the head.

As part of the plea agreement, Assistant District Attorney Christine DeMarco-Breeden recommended Brock’s murder sentence run concurrently to the sentence he is currently serving for third-degree murder out of Philadelphia.

Brock was represented by Assistant Public Defender Sue Harper.

Sentencing for Brock will be scheduled at a later date.

He is currently lodged in the Fayette County Prison.
