Viola A. (Marantos) Eakins

Viola A. (Marantos) Eakins, age 89, died March 6, 2018 at the Residence at Hilltop in Monongahela, PA. She was born on July 11, 1928, in Warren, California, a daughter of William Andrew and Sarah B. Marantos. Viola moved from California to Star Junction, PA after meeting and marrying her husband, Merle, who was in the Marine Corp. They were married for 63 years.
Viola was a kind, compassionate and beautiful woman who had many friends. She started her career as a radio weather lady in California and very seldom had a conversation that didn’t include a weather forecast. She also enjoyed her career in sales at Metzlers Department Store in Uniontown. She loved her church and the many friends she made there.
Her family and grandchildren were her greatest source of joy in her life!
In addition to her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her husband, and her brother, George Marantos.
She is survived by two sons, Merle and his wife, Louise who live in Devon, PA, and Gary and his wife, Kathy who live in Perryopolis, PA. She has two grandchildren: Amy Jo Eakins and her fianc* Chris Negrete of Berwyn, PA, and Jarrett Eakins of Pittsburgh, PA, an older sister, Polly and two brothers: Eugene and Alan Marantos, as well as several nieces and nephews including Joyce Santore and her husband, Tony of Uniontown, PA.
Viola’s family will receive friends, on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the

Independence Street, Perryopolis, PA 15473. Additional visitation will take place on Sunday from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. the hour of her funeral service in the Little Red Stone Methodist Church, 201 Redstone Church Road, Fayette City, PA 15438. With Rev. Robert L. Rabenstein officiating.
Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, PA.
