Woman waives charges in sleeping husband’s shooting death

A woman accused of killing her husband while he slept and then shooting herself waived her charges to the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas Monday in exchange for a tentative plea deal.
Suzanne Marie Bricker, 49, of Fairchance is expected to plead guilty to third-degree murder for an 18- to 40-year prison sentence, according to Fayette County District Attorney Rich Bower.
Bricker reportedly called 911 at about 2 a.m. Sept. 23 saying she shot herself and her husband, Steve Bricker, adding she was driving herself to Uniontown Hospital. There, she allegedly told emergency room staff the same story.
“I don’t know if he’s alive. He’s on the floor. I can’t believe I did this,” she was quoted as saying in court paperwork.
She was treated for a gunshot wound to her upper left breast, according to police.
Her husband was found lying facedown in the doorway to their master bedroom at 148 Sheldon Avenue Extension with a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to the affidavit of probable cause filed in her case. A .22-caliber semiautomatic pistol was found nearby in a holster.
She reportedly repeated “I did something stupid,” court documents said.
She is charged with one count of criminal homicide.
Bricker is lodged in Fayette County Prison without bail. She is represented by attorney Dianne H. Zerega. Her formal arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. April 23 before The Honorable Linda R. Cordaro.
