John Sember

John Sember, 92, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018. He was born on October 13, 1925, in Vanderbilt, PA, a son of the late Peter and Anna (Zeka) Sember.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Theresa Johnson, Marguerite Sember, Mary Elizabeth Sember, Irene Yenco, and Joan Kvaka; his brothers, Alexander Sember, Theodore Sember, and Andrew Sember.
John was a lifetime member of St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church, Leisenring, PA, where he served as the Cantor from 1960 until 2011. He was a graduate of the old Dunbar Twp. High School, Franklin Community College, and the University of Pittsburgh. John proudly served his country in the United States Army Signal Corp., during WWII, in Okinawa, Japan. He served with the 8th Army HQ, in Yokohama, Japan. John was employed as an Internal Auditor with US Steel Corporation for 37 years, from 1949 through 1986. During that time he did extensive traveling in Europe, South Africa, Brazil, and Central America. John also did consulting work with a law firm in Washington D.C., from 1992 until 2003.
Left to cherish his memory, are his brothers, Joseph Sember, of Sharpsville, PA, and Eugene Sember and his wife Elizabeth, of Scottdale, PA; his nieces and nephews, Judy Vaydovich, Debra Bellich and her husband Sam, Barbara McGiffin, Cynthia Sebek and her husband Don, Chris Kvaka and his wife Kristin, Mark Kvaka and his wife Michelle, and Jeffrey Yenco and his wife Theresa; his great niece, Tina Vaydovich Woodruff and her husband John; 14 other loving great nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. John was a wonderful, kind hearted man who was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Wednesday, March 21, from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, March 22, until 9:45 a.m. when the Panachida Service will be held.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in St Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church, Leisenring, PA with Rev. Father Ronald P. Larko as Celebrant.
Mausoleum Entombment will be held in Mt. Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA.
The Parastas Service will be held Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m.
