Attempted homicide warrant issued for Republic man in shooting

State police issued an arrest warrant Wednesday for a Republic man who allegedly shot a woman twice in a South Hills Terrace parking lot last year.
Obataiye Kereem Scott Jr., 23, of Rollie Street is accused of shooting Jennifer Mapstone in the arm and stomach during a confrontation with another person at about 3:40 a.m. July 9, according to court documents. Police said he is also known as Oball, Obe and YungBleek.
Mapstone, 46, survived her injuries, but suffers ongoing medical issues, police said. She is the mother of Jordan Mapstone, who was fatally shot in Uniontown Feb. 26 at age 22.
Scott was also shot in the confrontation by a person who has not been identified. Investigators said he was hit in the lower back.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in the case, Mapstone was standing outside talking to friends when Scott arrived in his car with her niece. She told police he was acting “rowdy” and got into a fight. Mapstone and a friend attempted to calm him down unsuccessfully. Scott then allegedly took a gun from his car, waving it around at those in the area. Mapstone yelled at him to put the gun down, but reportedly, he would not listen. She said Scott fired the gun, hitting her twice. She told police she knew there was a second shooter, who hit Scott, but said she was certain Scott hit her.
“Due to a lack of cooperation from Scott and members of the community, the second shooter has never been identified,” Trooper Robert Schmid wrote in the affidavit.
Mapstone told police during an interview in February that she had been in and out of the hospital for the past eight months due to residual medical problems from the shooting.
She is best friends with Scott’s mother, and told police she had known him since he was a little boy, court paperwork said.
Scott did not have a license to carry a firearm, and is prohibited from possessing a weapon because of a conviction involving a weapon, the affidavit said.
He is charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, prohibited possession of a firearm, firearms not to be carried without a license, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and two counts of aggravated assault.
He has faced charges multiple times beginning at age 16 when he was charged as an adult with robbery, aggravated assault and other charges for an alleged incident Dec. 22, 2010 in Redstone Township. Those charges were later dismissed.
In 2012, he was charged in six burglary cases in September and October in Redstone Township. At the conclusion of those cases, he pleaded guilty to burglary, theft and criminal mischief for a three to six year sentence in one case.
He also pleaded guilty to five counts of burglary, four counts of theft, three counts of criminal trespass, and one count each of conspiracy to commit theft, conspiracy to commit criminal trespass and unauthorized use of motor vehicles among four cases for a 31 to 176 month concurrent sentence.
Charges were dismissed and withdrawn in the sixth case.
His father, Obaitaye Kereem Scott Sr., was convicted of homicide in 2007 in the shooting death of Shawn Allen in Washington. He pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, avoiding a death sentence. He mistakenly thought Allen shot and killed his brother, Jabril, two days earlier.
He was also accused of killing Jerome Childs eight days before Childs’ brother, Terrell, killed Jabril Scott, according to investigators.
