Donald G. Mitchell, 90, of Carmichaels, Pa., passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family at 8:45 P.M. on Saturday, April 28, 2018. He was born July 3, 1927 in Templeton, Pa., a son of the late Preston and Helen (Thompson) Mitchell.

Donald served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon returning home he obtained a Mining Engineering degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He retired from Duquesne Light Company after working for 35 years. Mr. Mitchell served as an elder at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels and was a former member of the chancel choir. He was a member at Valley Lodge No. 459, F. & A.M., Masontown, Pa. He enjoyed gardening and traveling with family, especially with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 68 years, Carolyn (Campbell) Mitchell; a son, Robert Mitchell and his wife, Susan, of Harrisburg, Pa.; two daughters, Rebecca Jackson and her husband, Timothy, of Morgantown, W.Va. and Joyce Mitchell of Carmichaels, Pa.; six grandchildren, Heather Mitchell of Madison, Wis., Allison Moyer and her husband, Chuck, of Harrisburg, Pa., Benjamin Jackson and his wife, Melissa, of Morgantown, W.Va., Carolyn Brejwo and her husband, Jeffrey, of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Laurel Jackson of Nashville, Tenn., and Claire Beezhold and her husband, Kevin, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; eight great-grandchildren, Nolan Moyer, Stella, Susannah, Petra and Eleanor Brejwo, Charles, Adele, and Wren Beezhold; a brother, Alan Mitchell and his wife, Betty, of Kittanning, Pa. Mr. Mitchell is preceded in death by a great grandson, Jackson Beezhold; and two sisters, Nancy Mitchell, who passed away in childhood and Marjorie Pallatto.

Family and friends are invited to visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., the time of a memorial service on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 104 East Greene Street, Carmichaels, Pa. The Rev. P. Keith Larson will officiate. A graveside committal will follow at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday at Plum Creek Cemetery, 670 Center New Texas Rd., (Plum) Pittsburgh, PA 15239. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 363, Carmichaels, PA 15320.
