A man from Van Meter has been charged with robbery for allegedly stealing his mother’s wallet and spending most of the gift and credit cards within.

Curtis Roy Eakman, 30, was charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, access device fraud and harassment before on-call Westmoreland County Magisterial District Judge Anthony Bompiani on Sunday.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Roberta Ellsworth told police that Eakman arrived at her residence in Smithton at 3 a.m. on April 27, allegedly beating on her door and windows, telling her after she opened the door that he needed money to get rims at the truck stop.

At the time, Ellsworth was holding Eakman’s mother’s wallet because Eakman’s mother asked her to hold on to it so Ellsworth wouldn’t steal it, police said. Court paperwork alleged his mother had prior troubles with him taking her wallet.

While Ellsworth was holding the wallet, Eakman grabbed it from her hand and left her residence, police said.

Ellworth’s mother contacted police and told them that her wallet contained her driver’s license, $20 cash, a Walmart pre-paid card that was used several times after the incident with Ellsworth, her credit card that was used at the Smithton Truck Stop for a $62.75 withdrawal, West Newton PNC bank for a $103 withdrawal, $9.71 used at the Route 51 GetGo where $60 was later taken out, $42.75 was withdrawn from the PNC bank in West Newton a second time and two other charges were made at unknown time and locations totaling $183.

An arrest warrant was issued for Eakman.
