Andrew J. Grimes
Andrew J. “Andy” Grimes, 88, of Vestaburg, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in Premier Washington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
He was born May 28, 1929 in Crescent Heights, Pa., a son of Ralph and Anne (Svec) Grimes.
Mr. Grimes was a 1947 graduate of California High School.
He served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne in Panama taking part in the Manhattan Project.
Mr. Grimes was employed by J&L Steel Southside Works as a Bricklayer for 10 years, Shannopin Mine/Gateway Mine as a Coal Miner for 20 years, and Ross Mould Washington, Pa., as an Inspector for six years.
Andrew was a lifelong member of Saint Katharine Drexel Parish Fredericktown Campus and American Legion Post 395, Fredericktown, and an active member of the UMWA, USWA and AFAWA Flint.
He loved Harley- Davidson, hunting and fishing, and adored his grandchildren! He also enjoyed boxing while he was in the Army.
On January 9, 1954, he married Delores J. (Pordash) Grimes, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Larry Grimes (Marlene), Carmichaels, Pa., and Patrick Grimes (Paula), Vestaburg, Pa.; daughter Valerie Orlandi (Tony) of Vestaburg, Pa.; brother, Russell Grimes (Judy) of Niles, Ohio; a sister, Irma Mori of Latrobe, Pa.; 11 grand children; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his parents; two sons, Ricky Grimes, Davey Grimes; and sister. Ellen Greely.
Friends will be received Monday, May 7, 2018 from 3 to 6 p.m. in GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, Pa., where a Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Reverend Father Edward L. Yuhas will officiate.
Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 395 of Fredericktown, Pa.
Interment will be private.
