A 14-year-old driver with four passengers, including a toddler, caused a wreck at the Five Corners intersection Tuesday night, according to Uniontown City Police Department.

The Connellsville boy, who police did not identify, was reportedly driving his mother’s Honda Accord without permission north on South Mount Vernon Avenue when he crossed into the path of another vehicle traveling south on the road, causing a collision at about 9:20 p.m. Passenger Kieria Smith, 18, of Uniontown was taken to Uniontown Hospital by Fayette EMS with arm pain.

The boy’s mother told police she had no knowledge her son took her car.

A 2-year-old passenger was in the back seat without proper child safety equipment, according to police.

Beth Reed, 50, of Uniontown and her 10-year-old passenger in the second vehicle declined transport to the hospital, but said they would go for an assessment, according to police.

Sara Lester of Uniontown, 23, and a 15-year-old passenger, who were also in the car the 14-year-old was driving, reported no injuries, police said.

Police said the adults in the car claimed they did not know the boy was 14.

He will be cited for driving without a license and careless driving, according to police. He is not expected to face charges related to taking the vehicle.
