A convicted rapist is facing a Megan’s Law violation after he allegedly moved to Fairmont, West Virginia, without updating his address as a part of his legal registration requirements.

James Bernard “X Grimace” Brown, 53, was convicted of rape Dec. 7, 1994, for an offense committed June 21 that year, according to the Megan’s Law database, where he is listed as absconded. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case, Brown’s wife, Angela Hudak, called Uniontown City Police on April 26 to report her husband had been missing since April 23, and she could not find him. Police reportedly learned he was in Fairmont, which was verified through surveillance video.

Police said he did not update his address from his previous Uniontown address within 14 days as required.

He is facing a felony count of failure to register with state police, filed Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Michael Metros.
