Dunbar Township man hit, killed by train in South Connellsville
A Dunbar Township man died Saturday afternoon after being hit by a train in South Connellsville, two days after the death of his brother.
Patrick Haines, 54, was pronounced dead Saturday at 4:55 p.m., Fayette County Coroner Dr. Phillip Reilly said, adding that Haines had suffered a lethal injury from the wheel of a train.
Reilly said the death is being viewed as an accident pending autopsy and toxicology reports.
According to Fayette County 911, a CSX yardmaster reported a body on the tracks Saturday at 2:37 p.m. near Crown Cork & Seal, which is located off of Baldridge Avenue.
Reilly said that no eyewitnesses could be identified.
CSX referred comment to local law enforcement Sunday. South Connellsville police could not be reached for comment Sunday.
Haines was supposed to get food supplies for the arrival of family members visiting to attend his brother’s funeral slated for Monday, Reilly said, adding that Haines’s car was parked less than a mile away at the time of his death and that he was known to walk in the area.
Haines’s brother David died Thursday at age 57, and Reilly said that the family was doubly distraught following Patrick’s unexpected death.
