An inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Fayette is facing charges for allegedly assaulting four corrections officers, causing injuries.

Keith Deandre Williams, 26, was charged Monday with four counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault and one count of disorderly conduct for an alleged altercation at the Luzerne Township prison just before 9 a.m. April 16.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case, Williams became agitated when officer Jordon Wheeler told him he missed a line movement and needed to secure his door. Williams allegedly hit Wheeler in the head, causing him to fall. Officer Chad Pellis responded to assist and sprayed Williams with OC spray. Officer Scott Riddle and officer Matthew Cumberledge followed, and eventually handcuffed Williams after a reported continued altercation.

Wheeler suffered a one-inch cut above his right eyebrow, which required 11 stitches to close. Pellis suffered a scrape on the bridge of his nose and bruise on his right forearm. Riddle suffered scrapes on his right knuckles. Cumberledge suffered a skin tear on his right finger, and his hand was red and swollen, according to court documents.

Charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr. Williams is awaiting his preliminary arraignment on the charges.
