Mary Jane Stillwagon Hess
Mary Jane Stillwagon Hess, 95, of Dawson, Pa., died Thursday morning, October 4, 2018 in Mount Macrina Manor.
She was born on Tuesday, December 26, 1922 in Hull Town, Lower Tyrone Township, Fayette County, Pa., the daughter of the late Harry and Henrietta (Sproat) Stillwagon.
Mary Jane graduated from Dunbar Township High School and was married to Louis B. Hess of Dawson, Pa., on January 24, 1943. She had been a resident of Mount Macrina Manor since 2011. They were married 67 years until Louis’ death in December 2010.
When she was not with Louis during the war years, Mary Jane worked for the G. C. Murphy Company.
She also worked for the Wonder Bar Restaurant in Connellsville, Pa., from 1968 to 1984.
Mary Jane was an active and devoted member of the Philip G. Cochran Memorial United Methodist Church in Dawson, Pa. She served the Church in many capacities such as a member of the Board of Trustees and Church Council and as Youth Fellowship Advisor, Sunday School Teacher and as a member and Chairwoman of the United Methodist Women
Mary Jane and Louis enjoyed traveling and camping in their Scotty trailer and later snowbirding to Florida in the winter.
She enjoyed helping others.
Mary Jane is survived by her son, Harry Hess of Titusville, New Jersey; granddaughter Kimberly Hess, grandson-in-law, Mark Toigo and great granddaughter, Olivia Toigo-Hess, all of Annandale, New Jersey; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Bertha Hess of Dawson, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in -law, Carole Boyd Hess; parents, Henrietta and Harry Stillwagon; sister, Lulu Grace Kilgore; and brother, Harry Stillwagon Jr.
The family extends sincere gratitude and thanks to Mary Jane’s niece, Patty Hennessey, and Roy and Bertha Hess for all that they have done to help Mary Jane while living at Mount Macrina.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 111 East Green St., Connellsville, Pa., where Services will be held on Wednesday, October 10, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Marvin Watson officiating.
Interment will be in the Cochran Cemetery.
