Dr. James M. Benford, 91, of Pittsburgh, Pa., formerly of Connellsville Pa., peacefully passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 in the Juniper Village at Forest Hills.

He was born January 23, 1927 in Connellsville, Pa., a son of the late James A. and Margaret C. (Monahan) Benford.

Dr. Benford was a longtime resident of Connellsville and was a graduate of Connellsville High School with the class of 1945.

He took undergraduate courses at Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa., before graduating in 1953 from Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, Indiana. He had his own practice as a Doctor of Chiropractic Care in Connellsville for many years and retired in 2002.

He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1955 to 1957.

He was a member of the Partner Parish of The Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville.

Dr. Benford was very civic minded and was a former member of several organizations including: Connellsville Rotary Club, the Connellsville Elks No. 503, the Connellsville Lions Club, the Kiwanis Club, and the Chestnut Ridge Flying Club where he was an avid aviator.

Dr. Benford also held several offices in the Southwestern Chiropractic Association.

Dr. Benford will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving daughters: Stephanie Ann Benford of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Lisa Petzel and husband Robert of Monroeville, Pa.; his granddaughter, Natalia Petzel of Monroeville; numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr. Benford was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Benford was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Patricia A. (DuShaw) Benford whom he married on July 18, 1953 and who passed away on April 26, 2006; his brother, Dr. Edward Benford; and his sister, Mona Jean Reilly.

Family and Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, PA 15425 (724.628.1430) where a Blessing Service will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 12:00 Noon.

A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with Rev. Father Robert T. Lubic as the Celebrant.

A Committal Service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, Pa.

Military Rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Connellsville Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Honor Guard.
