A Uniontown man was charged in a series of burglaries when he was allegedly caught trying to break into an occupied house in Nicholson Township Sunday morning.

James Timothy Campbell, 37, of Frogtown Road allegedly burglarized seven other properties – six in Nicholson Township and one in Georges Township. State police located and returned all the property reported missing.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case, a 124 Walters Lane resident called state police at about 9 a.m., saying a man was trying to break in through his window. He later told investigators he attempted to confront the man, who reportedly responded, “You do not want none of this.” Campbell then allegedly fled toward 118 Thorpe Drive, where he was spotted by police. He was arrested after a brief foot chase.

State police interviewed seven other victims in the immediate area. Campbell allegedly stole $70 in tools and lawn equipment from a shed at 118 Thorpe Drive, $300 in weed eaters and lawn mowers from the yard and property of 346 Woodside Oldframe Road, outdoor equipment and other items from two sheds at 340 Walters Lane, $100 in tools from 124 Walters Lane, $270 in tools and outdoor equipment from a shed at 361 Woodside Oldframe Road, three gas cans and a weed eater from a shed at 367 Woodside Oldframe Road, and an air impact wrench, jumper cables, flares and sunglasses from a garage at 599 Collier Road. An eighth person reported no items were taken from 121 Walters Lane, but copper wires were cut. A shoe impression in the home matched Campbell, police said.

Campbell was found with a screwdriver, pliers, pocketknife and roll of tape, police said.

He is facing eight counts each of burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief, 42 counts of theft, 40 counts of receiving stolen property, four counts of possession of an instrument of crime with intent, and one count each of flight, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Campbell was arraigned Sunday night by on-call Magisterial District Judge Michael Metros, who set bail at $75,000. He remains in Fayette County Prison in lieu of bond.

Charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. Shimshock.
