Snow, freezing rain and sleet expected tomorrow morning
A round of snow is expected to hit the area tomorrow morning and may cause a treacherous commute.
“It’s like Mother Nature finally woke up and gave us winter,” said Lee Hendricks, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service out of Pittsburgh.
Hendricks said a winter weather advisory is in effect until noon tomorrow. A flood watch for Fayette and Greene counties begins tonight will carry over into Wednesday night.
Snow accumulation is expected to begin after midnight with a trace of ice. The weather service said Wednesday morning could include snow, freezing rain and sleet with an accumulation of 1 to 3 inches.
A NWS map estimates there’s a 39 percent Uniontown will get more than 4 inches of snow, and a 29 percent chance more than 4 inches of the white stuff will land in Washington, Pennsylvania.
Areas like Champion and Ohiopyle are expected to have 3 to 5 inches of snow with one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch of ice.
To make matters worse, Hendricks said, wind gusts between 25 and 30 miles per hour are expected across the area.
“If you have any ice accumulation over power lines or things like that, that could cause an issue,” he said.
