John H. Menhart Jr.
On February 23, 2019, John Harry Menhart Jr., 85, passed peacefully from this temporary earthly life to his eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
John was born in White house, Pennsylvania, the fourth of six children born to the late John H. and Ruth Jackson Menhart. Having grown up in White House, John attended Tobin Elementary School, Point Marion Jr/Sr High School and graduated from Georges High School in 1951. Following graduation, John worked briefly in Cleveland, Ohio, before serving his country for two years in the U.S. Army, being deployed to Korea during the Korean Conflict. Upon completing his military service, John returned to his job as an inspector at the General Motors assembly plant (Chevrolet Division), Brookpark Road, Cleveland, Ohio, from where he retired, in 1986 after 31 years of service.
John was married to Mary Lou Chipps Menhart on June 30, 1956. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John Edwin Menhart (Sue) of Elyria, Ohio, and William Joseph Menhart (Robin) of Mountain Home, Idaho; eight grandchildren, John E. Menhart (Katie) of Smyrna, Delaware, Christine Menhart, Elyria, Ohio, Billy, Matthew, Aaron and Tim Menhart, all of Idaho, and Shannon Menhart of Ohio; and two great grandchildren, Leah and Connor Menhart of Delaware. He is also survived by one sister, Faye Menhart of White House, Pa., and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was also predeceased by four sisters, Rena Elizabeth “Betty” Menhart, Mary Virginia “Gin” Gillick, Mildred “Mae” Dierks and Wilma Rae Falkenstine.
Following his retirement, John returned to his hometown of White House, built his own home, and faithfully attended White House Free Methodist Church, having served his Lord on several volunteer church committees. John was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend and Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed hiking the mountains, hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking and the view from his front porch, where, in recent years, from early spring to late fall, you could often find him sitting.
Friends and family will be received at the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., on Monday evening, February 25th, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 26th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at the White House Free Methodist Church, Route 857, White House, Pa., from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kenny Rockwell officiating. Interment will follow immediately in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Chalk Hill, Pa.
The family extends their sincerest thanks to the nurses and aids of Cherry Tree Nursing Center and to Amedisys Hospice for the tender, loving care during John’s stat at Cherry Tree.
