State police in Waynesburg issued an arrest warrant for a 36-year-old man who allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house and assaulted her Sunday night.

Michael Anthony Braun was listed as homeless and staying at multiple locations in Greene County and West Virginia, police said.

Police alleged Braun pried open the front door of his ex-girlfriend’s apartment on North Water Street in Carmichaels at about 8:30 p.m. and assaulted her. Authorities arrived to find her bleeding from the face and ankle.

The woman, Jessica Huggins, told police Braun said earlier he was coming over to collect his belongings. She told him he could not, asked him to leave her alone and said that she was not home. He allegedly broke into the apartment, grabbed her, spit in her face, smashed her face into a staircase and pushed her, causing a cut on her foot, according to court documents.

She was treated on the scene by Southwest EMS, police said.

Braun trespassed on the property in the past, and was not allowed there, court paperwork indicated.

A witness told police she saw the man break into the house. She said she heard a physical assault and confronted the man, telling him she was calling the police. She said she later heard “loud thuds” and the woman screaming for help.

Braun reportedly fled on a black spray-painted bicycle.

Police were unable to find him immediately.

He is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, simple assault and disorderly conduct.
